History

Origin

Written in Iceland or Denmark in the seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth century.

According to Árni Magnússon’s notes in Latin on ff. 10 and 20, ff. 11r-18r were written by the priest, Ketill Jörundsson , presumably provisioned by the bishop of Skálholt, Gísli Oddsson. Ketill Jörundsson was a School master at Skálholt between 1635-1638 and then became priest at Hvammur.

Provenance

Gísli Oddsson is said to have presented ff. 11-18 to Ole Worm. Possessions of the Worm family was subsequently acquired by Frederik Rostgaard.

Acquisition

Árni Magnússon bought ff. 11-18 at Rostgaard’s auction in 1726 (no. 723).
