Filiation

Copy of Jöfraskinna which was lost during the Copenhagen fire of 1728. Lacuna were filled in from two other manuscripts. The scribe wrote the details about the relation of this copy and the source texts in the margins.

Condition
This volume is in bad condition. The leaves, especially at the beginning of the codex, are stained and fragile due to exposure to humidity.

Occasional variants added by other hands and a few marginalia by Torfæus and Árni Magnússon.

Binding

Binding of calfskin with gilt, embossed motifs in the panels of the spine. Size of binding: 399 mm x 218 mm x 77 mm

History

Origin

The manuscript is most likely written in the period ca 1690-1697 while Ásgeir Jónsson was employed by Torfæus in Stangeland, Norway

(see Már Jónsson (2009)).
